Your Training Session

Unlike some personal trainers, Jon Bailey does not apply a ‘one size fits all’ approach to his clients’ fitness programmes.

His strategy is 100% client-focused, which means that every session is tailored to the needs of the individual to help them accelerate their performance and achieve their goals.

Jon’s sessions are full of variety; they’re also challenging, interesting, educational and fun!

A training session with Jon will include some or all of the following elements:

Cardiovascular training: This means raising your heart rate and building up a sweat! The benefits are enormous: it relieves stress; aids sleep; keeps the heart and lungs strong; and helps to keep you looking young and healthy. Examples include walking, running, rowing and cycling – either out in the fresh air or on specific machines in the gym, great way to burn fat!

Weights and resistance training: This involves use of free weights, resistance machines and actual body weight. For men, the aim is usually to increase muscle size. For women, the aim is usually to improve muscle tone and achieve that lean and healthy look! Weights and resistance training can also be used to strengthen and condition the body in order to reduce injury risk.

Boxing training: Boxing is a high intensity, anaerobic explosive sport which has been practiced for centuries. In recent years, the training principles of boxing have been employed by the fitness industry to great effect. A former amateur boxer, Jon is a master of boxing training. He teaches clients, both men and women, how to move their feet, position their hands and throw punches safely. Clients also learn to skip like a real boxer and gain incredible fitness and physical conditioning benefits through mastering the art of pad work and punch bag drills.

Core stability exercises: These help to strengthen the many different muscles in your stomach and lower back that stabilise the spine and pelvis. This form of training, usually on or around a fitness ball has numerous benefits: it improves balance and co-ordination; tones the abdominal muscles, protects the spine minimising risk of spinal and lower back injuries; and enhances posture.

Balance and co-ordination exercises: These draw on the training methods of disciplines such as yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi as well as other relevant techniques from the worlds of martial arts, physical therapy and sports. These kinds of exercises engage the smaller muscles groups to improve co-ordination, stability and flexibility. They also promote more effective use of each body part, enhancing overall physical ability and well-being.

Plyometrics: These are jumping, bounding and hopping exercises to develop power and explosiveness for enhanced athletic performance.

Agility training: This enhances the ability to change the direction of the body in an efficient and effective manner. It’s all about movement, explosiveness and lightness of foot. This kind of training helps to strengthen your joints and speed up reflexes. It’s great training for sportsmen and women but provides great all-round fitness benefits too.
